I applied to become a 100minds participant out of sheer curiosity, little knowing that I would be chosen for it. Now that I am, by pure serendipity, it feels surreal to me that I am making a massive impact in society - something that I've always intended to do. Being a 1st-year medical student with little to no patient contact at this stage, it is very easy to forget why I gravitated towards medicine in the first place. It is these programs involving the community that really capture the essence of one's purpose in life, which is to serve others. It is also programs like these which help me in shaping my professional identity as an aspiring health care worker.
As thrilling as it seems, I can somewhat foresee the challenges that lie ahead in this brief, beautiful yet arduous journey which I hope will open many new doors in life, not only for me but all the children to whom the proceeds go to.
This is my first official fund-raising project on my own and I'm happy to admit that there are significant gaps in my knowledge as well as fund-raising skills. Hence, I'll be needing all the support I can get from the public here, back home or anywhere in the world.
To all my present and future donors, I sincerely thank you for your contributions to the cause.

The event I'm organising, 'Game On or Game Over?' is a game-show style fundraising event. It is a replica of 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' with similar features such as ask the audience, 50:50 and phone a friend, as well as some additional features and rules to spice things up a little more. There will be 4 groups, each group comprising of 3 students and 1 staff member. Everyone else is welcome to be part of the audience. Fellow audience can answer the questions together with the competing participants via an online polling system while watching the event live. The event is VIRTUAL, scheduled to take place on Jan 20th 2022, from 7 to 9 pm. Questions are based on general knowledge, so brace yourselves for a wide range of unprecedented topics.

Game Rules and Guidelines
Posted: over 1 year ago
All attendees will be briefed on these rules and guidelines before the gameshow begins. This list is for teams who wants to have an edge over the others prior to the event, or all the curious folks out there wondering what this is all about.
• Audience can either use 1 device by opening a separate tab on their browser to visit Vevox and type in the meeting ID OR have 2 devices at hand by using their one device to view the Zoom session (preferably a laptop) and another to log into the session. They can download the Vevox app or simply scan the QR code or visit the Vevox website and enter the meeting ID on their second device.
• There will be 16 competing participants in total, divided into 4 teams.
• Each team has 1 staff member and 3 students.
• Participants only need one device to view the questions. They will decide on an answer as a team and say the answer verbally.
• Each team has to elect one spokesperson. Only the spokesperson is allowed to speak the final answer. The spokesperson has to be a different person for each subsequent round the team advances to.
• Each team will receive different questions, in no particular order. For each round, it starts with team 1, followed by teams 2, 3 and 4 respectively and the cycle repeats until all questions are done in each round.
• The questions will be timed. Each team will have 20 seconds to discuss and lock in a final answer.
• Each team will score one point for each correct answer. There is no negative marking.
• Extra points will be awarded to the team with the best teamwork (+5 points).
• Throughout the game, each team has access to additional tools/ lifelines which can only be activated once each throughout the entire duration of the game. These tools are Ask the Audience, 50:50, Phone a Friend, POPO (Power On Power Off) and STS (Steal the Spotlight). POPO allows a quick Google search for 10 seconds. STS allows a team to answer the question another team failed to answer correctly. However, if the team who uses STS also gets the answer wrong, they will lose one point (-1 point).
• A team will have to decide if they want to use a lifeline before the 20 seconds are up. Maximum time limit for Ask the Audience, STS, POPO and 50:50 is 10 seconds. Maximum time limit for phone a friend is 3 minutes (the friend can be from anywhere in the world). After the 20 second timer goes off, the team has no chances of using any lifeline.
• For Phone a Friend, the caller will have to be put on speaker, so choose them wisely.
• 1 point will be deducted for exceeding time limits (-1 point per minute exceeded)
• Each team will have to wait until the question has been read out, any team who interrupts will be subjected to a penalty charge (- 5 points).
• In between each round there will be a 5-minute intermission/ break.
• One team will be eliminated each round.
• The eliminated team will still get to participate in the remaining rounds by joining the audience on Vevox, or they can decide to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of the show.
• All participants have to keep their cameras on at all times. Microphones should be kept off, unless it is their team’s turn to answer. Audience members have the option of not keeping their cameras on, and microphones will have to be kept off at all times with the exception of giving applause and cheering when the contestants are being introduced at the beginning and at the end of each round, where the advancing teams are announced (cues to do this will be given by the host). Audience are of course free to say anything they that needs to be said through the chat function on Zoom or the messaging function on Vevox during intermissions.
• Each team has to come up with a unique team name. Teams are free to do a cheer when they feel they’ve had a victorious moment (provided they don’t interrupt other teams). 5 points will be awarded to the team that is exceptionally sporting/ involved (+5 points). If there are none, no team gets these additional points.
• There will be 3 rounds, with 60 questions in total. If one team gets eliminated each round without draws, there will be 20 questions for the 1st round, 21 questions for the 2nd round and 19 questions for the final round. The questions will be multiple choice for all rounds. For the final round, the first 14 questions will be as the previous rounds but the last 5 show-down questions will be time-based, meaning both teams will have to compete to answer the same questions. They will have to use the raise hand function on Zoom, where the team who raises their hand first gets to answer first. Hand-raising has to be done by the spokesperson only. The team who answers correctly first gets 2 points instead of just one for each question. Each team has one chance to answer each question, meaning if the first team gets it wrong, the second team will still have a chance to answer afterwards.
• In the event of a draw, there will be 5 questions to rule out which of the 2 teams in a draw gets eliminated. The team who is the first to answer, and give the correct answer, will be awarded the point. No lifelines allowed. No multiple choices; short answers have to be given verbally. These 5 questions will be recited verbally in the unfortunate incidence of a draw, i.e. they will not be on display, due to the unpredictable nature of draws. Questions will be much shorter. Audience can only watch this. Each team can only say one answer. If the 1st team gets it wrong, the 2nd team can answer instead, but if it’s still wrong, both teams have no more chances and will have to proceed to the next question.
• Additional 5 points will be awarded to the team who is the first to answer the Final Bonus Question (+ 5 points).
• The audience member who answers most questions correctly, as displayed by the leader board at the end of the game, will win a Just Eat voucher. In the event where there’s more than 1 audience winner, a virtual Spinning Wheel on AhaSlides will be used to decide the winner in a game of chance.
• Another round of the Spinning Wheel will be done to decide which audience member wins the 2nd set of vouchers. Audience will be numbered on the wheel according to the name list of people who signed up.
