Hello, My name is Morgan Kelley and I am a marketing major from the United States who is studying abroad at Dublin City University. I have been selected to do a 100Minds fundraiser project. 100Minds is an organization that allows students to fundraise for a wonderful cause. This year all the money raised will go to The Temple Street Foundation, which donates money to the Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Many children are fighting for their lives while simultaneously attending school in the hospital. Thankfully, 100Minds is working to raise enough funds to create a satellite classroom for the St. Gabriel’s Ward. This ward has many children who are seriously ill, such as children who have undergone neurosurgery and craniofacial surgery. These children can be in this medical ward for a year or more. A classroom in this ward will provide education in a proper environment that helps maintain their health.
I am very excited to be a part of creating a fundraiser for such a wonderful cause. This 100Minds fundraiser means so much to me. I have been thinking for over a year now about what I want to do for this fundraiser. I have chosen to do a concert fundraiser for The Temple Street Foundation because I want to pursue a career in the music industry, with a focus on marketing and promotions. This is the perfect opportunity for me to combine my passion for music with an important contribution to a local community. I am excited for the opportunity to positively impact many children.
The two main reasons I chose Dublin, Ireland to study in was because of this 100Minds project and the Irish music scene. I have always known there is no place like Ireland when it comes to music because it’s all over, and is so respected by so many people. Knowing I have aspirations to get into the music industry made me realize that I need to go to Ireland and study, along with making connections. 100Minds is the perfect opportunity to get involved and right away I knew this was something I wanted to do. Raising money for such a wonderful cause is such a heartwarming thing, so I knew I wanted to get involved with 100Minds. Once I knew I wanted to apply for 100Minds, creating the concert to fundraise the money just came to me. This is because it is combining the 2 main reasons I chose Ireland to study in.
I am currently working towards putting together a concert where the funds will go toward this important and heartwarming cause. Preparing this event will require a quick turnaround because I have to head back home to America in the middle of December. Although I do not have much time I am very determined and excited to pull this event off.
This is going to be a night you wont want to miss with a great music lineup including Heroes in Hiding, Mark Campbell, and Niall Cash. In addition there will be GREAT drink specials. Again, tickets are €10 and can be bought online or at the door. All proceeds will go to Temple Street Children's Hospital. Keep spreading the word because this is going to be a night No One will want to miss!!
Looking forward to seeing you all there and enjoying a great night of music!
Thanks so much for your time!
Post Music for a Cause Event

Creating a concert event in 26 days was a huge challenge. In addition to this challenge I'm not from Ireland so I had no connections, which made this event even harder to obtain. I had people suggesting I not go through with this event, but this event was something I have dreamt about for about a year and a half. With this being said I decided to follow my dream.
The most challenging part about this event was getting performers to preform in such short notice, as it was happening in 26 days. With 14 days to go until the event I was able to pull off the 3 performers. With this being said, I had 14 days to market and promote Music for a Cause because I couldn't promote this event much before I had the confirmed music lineup. Promoting Music for a Cause was challenging because I had no connections, but I feel I did a really good job at promoting and advertising Music for a Cause I created a Facebook event page, and I promoted the event extreme heavily through all forms of social media; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. I also created an advertisement and posted it online and printed posters off to hang up around the city and at my school. I created a press release. I got the event on several Dublin City event webpages. I promoted Music for a Cause on my radio broadcast for DCUfm and I also called Dublin City radio stations to ask them to help promote the event. Lastly I tweeted at many people who are related to music or events from and/or currently living in Ireland, to help promote Music for a Cause.
Planning this event was much more time consuming than I anticipated it to be, but I did not mind it. I enjoyed planning it because I want to work in the music industry more than anything. I don't want to make it sounds like I was never stressed. Believe me, I was beyond stress most of the 26 days, but I was excited to create this wonderful event with the proceeds going towards such a wonderful cause! These 26 days leading up to the event, I practically had no free time and my school work did not seem like huge priority. This was due to the fact that I was so invested with Music for a Cause; not because I felt I had to, but because i Wanted To!
The night before the event I discover that many of my friends who told me they would be going to the event were no longer going. This was due to finals. (I was unaware of when finals were because this was my first semester at DCU and all my classes are classes where I need to write papers, and they are all due in January). With this being said I began to get extremely nervous for the outcome of Music for a Cause.
Its now the night of Music for a Cause and since I am really concerned about the outcome of the event, I decide to print out mini advertisements to handout to people on the streets. It seemed like people already had plans for the day because I don't believe these people who received the flyers showed up.
Music for a Cause ended up raising €90. I wasn't happy with this amount at all. I feel like Music for a Cause had so much potential, time was the only issue; and it was a huge issue. I feel like I had many obstacles I had to go through, but I never let them affect me. I am really proud of myself that I was even able to plan a concert event within 26 days, so that is something to be proud of. I just wish I had more time to plan and promote this event because I think it could have been a great success. This just give me more determination for the next event I plan! All in all, I am very grateful that the performers were able to preform along with everyone who showed u. in addition to this, I'm so happy I was able to help out such a heartwarming cause!
I want to thank 100Minds for giving me the opportunity to pull Music for a Cause off! Morgan Kelley
