Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to visit my 100minds blog!
My name is Katie Fitzgerald, I am currently a third year computer science student in DIT. I became interested in 100minds because I wanted to make an impact in the lives of sick children in Ireland and to show an appreciation for the work that goes on behind the scenes at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
What is 100minds?
100minds was set up in 2013 to encourage 100 driven students to raise vital funds for children's charities throughout Ireland. Each student is given the target of €1000 to raise. This means collectively we will raise a minimum of €100,000. This year, 100minds has partnered with Temple Street Children's Hospital.
What will my donation do for Temple Street?
All funds raised will build a new satellite classroom in the St.Gabriel's Ward in the hospital. This classroom will give the children in the hospital an opportunity to reach their full potential, despite the burden of illness. It will also provide some normality to the hectic lives of the children and their parents.
Throughout the coming months, I hope to organise some events to reach my goal of €1000 (and maybe even beyond that!).
Please donate!
Even the smallest amount will help move the progression bar at the top of the page, and will make me a step closer to reaching my goal! Your donation will actively change the life of a very sick child in Ireland.

The End of A Journey..
Posted: about 6 years ago
As the 2017 100minds journey comes to an end, I have a huge array of feelings.
Firstly, when I look back at the initial task given - raising €1000 - I was hugely overwhelmed and thought this figure was unreachable. As I began brainstorming ideas and the donations began to roll in, I realised this was a target I could reach.
I played around with ideas such as pub quizzes, christmas parties, class parties and raffles but I met a lot of dead ends with these (locations, timing, attendees). With exams and starting a work placement, I had a lot to juggle. I was feeling quite stressed. Just weeks before the deadline, I got in touch with my old manager who agreed to give me a weekend of bag packing in Dunnes Stores.
The weekend was fantastic! I enlisted a team of friends, families and work colleagues and for 16 hours in total we helped customers with their bags. It was a huge success. People were so generous and really intrigued about the satellite classroom. Not only was the bag pack an amazing to help me reach my target but it was a great way to get the word out about 100minds and Temple Street.

My final feelings fall somewhere between excitement and honor. I am so grateful to be a part of a team who have such drive. Not once did anyone give up on me when I was feeling stressed or overwhelmed. My mentor, the 100minds team and the other students were always there to offer a helping hand - no matter the request.
I would like to finish with a massive THANK YOU!!!!! to everyone who has come along with me on this journey. I am feeling very grateful.
