Hey guys, welcome to my 100minds profile! My name is Suzannah and I am first year at Trinity studying French and Modern Irish.
Being part of 100minds this year is both a challenge and a real honour for me and over the course of the year I will be organising events to raise €1000 for Childline; every single cent of your donations and of the money collected goes straight to them.
And to me, that's what's so inspiring about Childine and the work they do, they focus on helping Irish children in need, no matter what. After taking 460,000 calls from children last year, Childline recognise that there are so many young people who just need a listening and confidential ear hence why this service is so essential. After extreme funding pressures last year, Childline's night service was almost closed so in order to ensure this service remains available for those in need, we're aiming to raise €1,000,000 for this fantastic charity in the coming year.
Want to hear more about what's in store? Stay tuned to my profile over the coming weeks and I'll keep you updated with the progress of the fundraising and everything that's going on.
P.S. See that big green 'Donate Now' button?! I'd be so grateful if you would click that and donate to Childline today.
Slán agus go raibh míle maith agaibh! Suzannah xoxo
€500 for Childline- WOW!

My first 100minds venture was a bake sale held in the Arts Block in Trinity College Dublin on 15th December. Declan, my cousin and mentor, helped me immensely throughout the day giving me tips on how to approach people and going around with goodies himself. Friends from my apartment and from Trinity Hall came to man the stall, go around selling and of course they were persuaded to buy some items too. They're such a fantastic bunch, I can't thank them all enough! Other lovely girls from Hall kindly baked many goodies for the sale, I definitely couldn't haven't done it without them and their generosity.
Declan and I were there from 9am until 5:30pm and we got everything sold, making my first event a massive success thanks to the strong support network around me. Sales were none stop all day and being friendly and approachable definitely helped to draw in the crowds. After packing up and heading for home, I counted up all the money and the fantastic amount of €500 was raised during the day.
Next step: emulate this success for the next event!

A special thanks to my friend, Triona Wade, who so kindly donated €20 to Childline. Go raibh míle maith agat, a stóirín!
At a party during RAG Week, a friend Kate, who's also a 100minds particicpant, and I took some baked goods down to the party and left donation buckets at the table. Then later in the evening we walked around with the buckets too and by the end of the evening we had raised €50 each.
Blind Date fundraiser

On 25th February 2016 my friend Órlaith-a 100minds participant- and I held a Blind Date event in Trinity Hall. This involved getting Hall residents (who we had asked to participate in the run up to the event) to answer funny questions from a mystery boy and girl, then one special guy/gal was picked and they'd be whisked off for a romantic date in D2 where we all headed after.
Although there were no love matches on the night, I think Órlaith and I were a great fundraising match! We worked hard in the weeks leading up to the event, meeting regularly, making sure the Facebook event was engaging and making lots of plans to ensure the event ran smoothly.
The premise of the fundraiser was to market it as a fun, BYOB fundraiser in Hall's canteen to watch your friends take the mick out of themselves all in the name of charity and a free into D2 band, all for €5. Órlaith got the D2 deal sorted which was a major selling point for our event.
As young 'uns these days live on their phones, we knew social media would be integral to getting our message out there. We updated it often, made funny Photoshops and invited everyone and their grannies on Facebook to raise awareness of the event and ultimately of the amazing charity we're helping.
The work load was heavier than I'd initially anticipated for this event, from writing profiles of the contestants to contacting numerous businesses for sponsorship and many tasks in between, but we managed it really well and spread the workload evenly between us. It kept us on our toes but I can only take positive experiences from it!
Thanks to running this event, I'm more confident in my approach with others and have a 'can do' attitude. At the end of the day we raised €420 between us and have grown a lot as people as a result!
Great news- more fundraising!
