Hi everyone, welcome to my profile.
My name is Robert Blake and I am a first year Engineering student in UCD. This year I’m delighted to be involved in the 100Minds program which is aiming to raise 1,000,000 euro in aid of Childline.
Childline is a free and confidential service, run by amazing volunteers, which provides support to young children. They received over 1,176 calls on Christmas Day. The phone, text and online platform are an essential service which provides children with essential support in times of need.
I will team up with fellow 100minds participant Tom Ryan. Our intended fundraising project involves Leopardstown racecourse on the 6th of April, student race day. My intention is to sell 170 tickets @€30 to students which covers: Admission to the racecourse, race card, access to the panoramic suite, food, €5 free bet and admission to a city centre nightclub that evening. My personal objective is to raise in excess of €4000. Of course hard work and creativity are essential to achieving this target. I believe I am up to the task. I will keep my profile updated to let you know my plans once they are ready to be put into practice.
Thanks for visiting my profile and of course any donation is greatly appreciated.
Event Summary
Posted: about 7 years ago
Last Wednesday the Student Raceday took place. The event was a huge success and I cannot put my delight into words. I am extremely grateful to all our sponsors and everyone who attended the event.
This type of event had never taken place before on student raceday so I was extremely grateful to Leopardstowns management. I hosted the event with fellow 100minds participant Tom Ryan. The tickets for the event were in high demand and it didn't take long for the 170 to sell. A Facebook event page was setup, along with various adverts throughout campus and word of mouth, it was surprisingly easy to build up the hype and anticipation. It sold out days before the event and many where on the waitlist.
In the meantime, I began contacting potential sponsors. I organised the the night-out, the raffle (which consisted of prizes totalling the value of about €700) and also contacted various industries for sponsorship. Due to a disappointing Cheltenham many betting agencies were reluctant to provide a free bet, although thankfully they where finally acquired the day before the event. The day itself was a huge success. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and few even left the suite.
A great night was also had after the races. The whole event was a massive success. I would like to thank all the sponsors including various restaurants around Dublin and companies around Ireland. Without your generosity, the event would not have been as successful as it was. I would also like to thank the 170 guests for their support.
The event managed to raise €7200, split between myself and Tom Ryan. We will certainly look at doing a similar event next year as it was a great experience and it raised some much needed funds for Childline.
