Hi All, and welcome to my 100 minds profile!
I'd firstly like to introduce myself. My name is Orla Reilly, and I am an 18 year old Business Information Systems student in University College Cork. I live in a small town just outside the city center, in Ballincollig. I am a member of the promotion team for University College Cork's Commerce Society and I am the first year representative for U.C.C.'s Health Society. I am also an assistant Leader to St. Barbra's Irish Girl Guide Unit, and I am allergic to 'crunchies'. I hope that gave you a little insight into my life and who I am!
I am delighted to be apart of 100 minds, and I am utterly excited for the coming months. I am so proud to have been chosen for the programme that supports such worthy children's charities each year. This is such a great opportunity for us all to make a real impact in the lives of young people today in Ireland. I am so grateful to have been chosen, I am so determined to help us reach our overall and outstanding goal of 1 million euro for Childline. I would like to thank Declan and his team for giving (us) third level students such a fantastic opportunity to help such great charities whilst gaining valuable work experience.
I hope that you will follow and support me throughout my journey, feel free to send me a Tweet or message on Facebook!
Best wishes, Orla :)
Bookings, bookings, and bookings!

I've finally secured venues for two of my events, one in February and the other in March. I've also secured the special guests for my march event!
Pitfalls in Planning :(
Posted: about 7 years ago
Unfortunately, due to my lack of research I had to change the date of my event in February - twice. This was because of an Arts Ball that was being ran on the date of my initial event. I would have lost a lot of people from this and so made the executive decision to just change the date of the event instead. The event is now taking place next Wednesday the 27th of January. So despite everything, my event is still going ahead as planned - I'm super excited!
T minus 8 Days!

So my event (my table quiz extravaganza) is Wednesday next, and safe to say the nerves are beginning to kick in. I've the majority of my resources put together and all of my spot prizes have been secured (such as sponsership from local gyms and even makeup vouchers from Ireland's own Inglot). I am really proud of the effort I put into securing these prizes as I hope they will draw a crowd. I have made all of the questions out, along with the answer sheets. I've contacted the venue, and will do so again at the weekend. It's only upwards from here!
Last minute difficulties :/
Posted: about 7 years ago
Having let organising my QM for my table quiz to the last minute, I'm in a frantic search of my friends list to try and find some willing and bubbly personality to be my quiz master. Having contacted DJs and reps I'm running out of ideas! It'll either be myself or my dad now at this stage :p
Table Quiz
Posted: about 7 years ago
So my table quiz went out a hit! Despite having 4 full tables (16 people!!) drop out an hour before the event, I managed to rally up 14 tables, with 2 tables of 5 participants. There was some fairly hard questions from ''How many toes does a dog have?'' and ''What was Ross' middle name from the TV show 'Friends'?'' but the winning team scored 77 out of a possible 100 points! The winners were established after a sudden death round (which was very exciting as the two teams had been level for 3 ROUNDS!!). The first place prize was for Dennehy's gym. It was an all access month's membership where the winner could avail of any classes being ran and gym access at both their locations in Ballincollig and in Douglas. The second place prize was kindly sponsored by the Commerce Society to which they donated 4 All4One vouchers worth 20 euro each. There was also a raffle on the night which was of great interest to everyone! There was prizes from makeup brand 'Inglot', gym membership for F.1.T. training, perfume sets, shower hampers sponsored from local pharmacies and lots more!
I'm delighted with the 526.15 that I have raised, despite the let down of teams dropping out, I am so appreciative of the people who supported my fundraising night and who kindly donated on the night.
Race to the finish line
Posted: almost 7 years ago
The dash to the finish line of 100 minds 2015/2016 was quite successful!
I smashed my goal of 1000 euro for Childline on Friday evening, and I am continuing to collect the remaining donations from friends and family. I finally reached my goal by holding a facebook competition for a Nia Skincare hamper and a foodie hamper sponsered by Rebel Chilli. I will generate the winners of the competition from an online generator, as it is only fair.
So in my final days, I will be rounding up the last of the donations and updating my profile. Thanks 100 minds, you've been great! :)
Reflections

As the deadline for the 2015/2016 100 Minds campaign is on the horizon, I have taken a few moments to revel in the hard work that has gone into this year's 100 minds campaign.
It has been a true roller coaster of an experience, but one that I am SO glad I was chosen to be a part of. The time, effort and dedication shown by both participants and organisers has truly warmed my heart to see the triumph in fundraising for such a great cause. Furthermore, people's generosity to donate their hard earned money (especially students) has really shown the kindness that prevails in today's society.
I've a short dash to the finish line, but I am more determined than ever to smash my goal of 1,000 euro for Childline. Even if it takes baking into the early hours of the morning, I'll be sure to do all I can for such a deserving charity.
What I have learned from 100 minds 2015/2016.

100 minds has been a great learning curve for me personally.
I feel that I have truly benefited from participating in such a great campaign. I have developed my own interpersonal skills, my organisation skills, and most importantly my own self confidence. I am personally one to become disheartened very easily, but through trials and tribulations I have tried and tried again. Despite many pitfalls in my organisation of fundraising events, I am proud of my efforts and also time that I have put into this campaign.
If I was to do it all over again, I would definitely start planning earlier, and contacting companies and speakers for events MUCH earlier. But, it has been a great experience one I am blessed to have been a part of.
