Hi, I'm Maria! I'm 19 years old. I live in Portumna, Galway currently studying Music with Arts in first year in UCC. I'm a tea addict and enjoy anything and everything Irish.
My favourite quote which probably describes me best is 'Life is a story, make yours a best-seller'.
I would love to be able to make everybody's story a 'best-seller'. By taking part in 100 minds that is what we are aiming to do. Help making someones life a little bit better, raising much needed funds in order to change or even save a childs life.
100 minds is asking each volunteer to raise €1000 each for childline. I am honoured and delighted to be part of this amazing initiative. I am so excited to announce my fundraising event which is a Valentines charity concert in my hometown called 'Spread Love for Childline'. This will feature a lineup of local performers and promises to be a great night. All information can be found here.https://www.facebook.com/events/1505975993041869/
However I would still encourage donations on this page no matter how little :) The best feeling in the world is giving so please open your hearts and give to childline. You never know who could need it next!
Thank you :)
Spread Love for Childline Valentines Concert.

So it has been 4 days since my Valentines concert for Childline took place. To say I'm sad it's over is an understatement to say the least. All the planning, stress, worry and excitement was worth it and it was one of the best nights I could have ever hoped for. I don't think I've witnessed that much talent in one room in all my life! The support from everyone in my hometown was immense. Honestly, I was truly overwhelmed. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would sell out the tickets never mind have a full house! When I started organising this event for childline I wanted it to be special as it's a charity very close to my heart so I wanted to have the concert in my hometown as I know how amazing and helpful the people of Portumna are but I really did underestimate the support and generosity I would receive. The comments and praise I have received as a result of the concert are mindblowing. Many people loved the diversity and the fact that the main focus of the concert was Childline. Many people are saying they are looking forward to next year's concert already! Comments like these are what really make your fundraiser worthwhile. So long as you know you tried your best and gave it all you could that's the main goal. Organising the concert was not easy but it wasn't impossible. It's amazing how quickly and efficiently you can get things done when you just get the courage and launch into it. I learned so much about dealing with people, money, resources, businesses etc. From dealing with the venue owner, insurance, asking the performers, designing the posters and programmes, distributing tickets, asking local businesses for sponsorship and donation of raffle prizes. It was 100% the biggest learning curve for me. There was a few mistakes made and things | would like to go back and change but overall the concert was a success and at least I'll know now for next time! A few pieces of advice I would give anybody thinking of starting their event is to always keep a diary, PLAN PLAN PLAN in advance, keep your eye on why your doing it, make sure everything is prepared don't leave anything to chance and have a great support system and background team. The concert would not have happened without my parents, my neighbours and my volunteers, I think that's really how you achieve your goal by having friends and family around to help and support you, and don't be afraid to ask for help! The concert surpassed my standards and we met the goal of €1000 and made over €2000. I couldn't be more greatful for the opportunity and I am lost now that it's over!
