My name is Lorcan O'Shea and I am a 1st year student in Shannon College of Hotel Management (Apart of NUIGalway).
I decided to sign up to 100minds this year as upon looking into the campaign, I really liked the idea of getting involved in charity work which directly benefitted the end user (cutting out the middle man) but also I saw it as an opportunity to develop my skills and qualities by putting them to work organising various events for my campaign.
So thankfully, I was fortunate enough to be chosen for this years 100minds campaign!
2015's 100minds charity partner is Childline; Childline is a fantastic cause to fundraise for, it is in place to protect our nations future voice by giving the children of Ireland a safe and comforting environment to share their issues and voice their concerns in an anonymous manner to give these children the comfort to talk about their issues.
By raising my share of the €1,000,000 target, an additional 100,000 calls, texts and web chats will be answered by Childline. As well as contributing to the €5,000,000 needed to keep childline running 24 hours a day every year.
So thank you from Childline, 100minds and myself for your incredible donation,

I have changed the idea of the first event in Shannon to an event that is less work but still generating funds (yet to be confirmed). For the second event of my campaign I am hosting a Whiskey Tasting Night in St.Brigid's GAA club. I will be charging €10 on the door and there will be music & food on the night! The date is SET, friday the 11th of March.
Onwards and upwards!

With the Dublin event out of the way a week now I have managed to raise €1,550 from my Night of Craic in my local GAA club!
The night was a great success with entry on the door being €10. For this attendees gained entry to the event, got to listen to a deadly live DJ who wasn't afraid to take requests and access to the finger food on offer that was donated fresh by Mr. Tommy Tuite from his own bakery.
Also guests had the opportunity to enter into the raffle with tickets at 1 strip €2- 3 strips €5. Prizes ranged from a ton of Manhattan Popcorn goods donated by Mr. Don O'Neill, with vouchers from Mr. Greg Browne for some of the restaurants in Dublin 15 such as Castello Bruno etc. other prizes included a Coole Swan hamper! Bottles of Jameson whiskey and champagne!
An excellent night was the feedback I got from most if not all of the guests that attended (could be the drink talking) but it also benefited the charity greatly as collectively I raised €1,550 from the night.
By the end of my campaign I hope to host an event in Shannon to try and reach a total of €2,000 for Childline.
Thank you to all who attended, supported & donated to the event in my eyes it was a great success!

After having my first meeting with my mentor Dave on Saturday in the BOI Enterprise Lounge, I have decided to also go for an event in Shannon.
Back to the drawing board with ideas but I have a couple in mind. For example a pop-up restaurant or champagne breakfast in my college using the on site facilities. Or I could go for something to a lower scale but still as effective such as a table quiz or something along those lines!
