My name is Ellen Fitzsimons and I am a second year Social Science student in UCD. I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to take part in this year’s 100 Minds, with the aim of raising an incredible 1 million euro. 100 Minds is working toward achieving something that has never been done before and is bringing a level of innovation and inclusiveness that is unlike any other charity. Since its creation, 100 Minds has broken the boundaries in terms of raising funds and awareness for different charities throughout the country. This year’s selected charity is Childline Ireland, a subdivision of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC). Childline is a 24hr charity whose mission is to empower, support, and protect young people. Last year they were forced to launch an emergency appeal as their night time services were at risk of being cut due to insufficient funds. The night time service is imperative to the hundreds of thousands of children Childline helps each year, and so to lose it would be a great loss.
In an effort to lend my mind to the project, I have set myself the goal of raising 1,000 euro. I intend to draw on my involvement in Eventing Ireland and my life-long passion and interest in horse riding to organise a number of events over the coming months. With that, I ask you to keep this project in the forefront of your mind and to help me achieve my goal of supporting and taking part in this incredible fundraising opportunity in any way you can. I will keep you informed of the events to follow and would be so appreciative of your involvement and support. I am optimistic and incredibly hopeful that we can all work together toward achieving this momentous mission. Will keep you posted.
