I will host a 5 a side soccer tournament in my local town of Drogheda on Sunday the 16th of February, in my local indoor astro-turf complex. This tournament is turning out to become a major success with interest growing every day.

There will be a 10 euro entry charge per person into the tournament and the winners will receive a trophy, along with medals, as well as the obvious 'money-can't-buy' bragging rights.

I am hoping for the possibility of 10 to 15 teams to enter, but it may be even more than that!

I had 763.10 euro on the Friday morning of the 28th of February, the deadline! I decided to stick with it until the deadline of 6pm on that Friday, and promised myself that I wouldn't give up!!

On Thursday the 27th, I decided to leave a donation box into my old school. I met with the principal and asked him to leave it into the staff room! I got my Principal's number and rang him at 4pm on the Friday, when the school finishes, and he told me that there was 50 euro in the box! This was a breath of fresh air and made my target seem all the more plausible.

I started to contact friends and family once again to see if any of them wanted to donate, and slowly but surely, my bar started to rise and rise until I reached my goal of 1000 euro, and soared above it with an extra 3 euro and 10 cent!!

There has never been a moment in my life that I felt as much pride as I did at 4:30pm that day when my last donation went in. I was absolutely delighted, I had reached my target, the impossible had become possible!

Following up and chasing teams, to make sure I had their word that they would definitely turn up was the most challenging part! In the end I had 12 teams playing in the tournament, a reduced number from 14 the previous night, with a couple of drop outs on the morning of the event, always to be expected.

I set up 3 group stages, each with 4 teams. I had templates for league tables done out prior to the event. I filled out the templates of the 3 groups so it was easier to see who went through to the quarter finals. These quarter finals meant that 8 out of 12 teams were guaranteed 4 games, with every team guaranteed 3 games minimum.

The event went according to plan, ran smoothly, and avoided any delays. Every participant was so supportive. Participants helped me to time each of the games, as there were 3 matches running simultaneously so it wasn't possible for me to time and referee them all!

I would also like to thank Drogheda Leisure Park for allowing me to use 3 pitches for an hour and 2 for two hours all free of charge, this made such a difference to the final amount raised so I sincerely thank you!!

Overall, the event raised 608.10 euro, which was a major stepping stone to me completing my goal!
